Must-Try Signature Dishes in Stockholm
Biff á la Rydberg at Prinsen
Prinsen, Mäster Samuelsgatan 4
Potatoes, onions, and beef topped with raw egg yolk, parsley, and Dijon mustard. The classic Biff à la Rydberg at Prinsen in Bibliotekstan is a must for anyone looking to explore Stockholm's traditional culinary scene. While the iconic dish is available at most fine-dining restaurants in town, it's Prinsen that draws actors from the Royal Dramatic Theatre, top financiers, and fashionistas.
The secret behind this beloved dish is that the beef, cut into small, even pieces, is exclusively fine tenderloin. It’s served with diced potatoes fried in butter and oil with salt and white pepper, a characteristic mustard mousse made from cream, sugar, and mustard powder, and onions sautéed until soft in butter, oil, sugar, white pepper, and salt. A robust Bordeaux or Prinsen's beer, an underfermented lager from Nils Oscar, is recommended for drinks.
Pasta and Gelato
Eataly, Biblioteksgatan 5
For those who prefer Italian classics over Swedish cooking, Eataly's signature dish, Spaghetto Eataly, is an excellent choice. It is simply a flavorful pasta dish with tomato sauce made from the best ingredients – essentially Italy's signature dish.
Eataly's tomato sauce uses sun-ripened Dattelino tomatoes from Così Com’è in southern Italy, basil, Sicilian sea salt, and olive oil from northern Italy, where the olives are sweeter and less powerful than those in the south. The spaghetti is from the brand Afeltra, which is left to air dry for five to six days. The dish is then topped with mozzarella.
Before heading out to explore the city, we suggest a stop at Eataly's gelato bar. Choose from flavors such as stracciatella, pistachio, and raspberry sorbet.
The Best Places for Wine Lunch in Stockholm
Parisian bistro
Pas d’Art, Biblioteksgatan 6
Right on Biblioteksgatan, Pas d’Art invites you to a French-inspired lunch in a colourful setting. On sunny days, the outdoor seating with views over the city's main shopping street is highly recommended. And if Stockholm doesn't show its best side, a wine lunch in the unique bistro is an equally pleasant alternative. Among beautiful wall paintings, colourful wallpapers, and elegant velvet sofas, dishes like salade niçoise, steak tartare, and the omelette of the day are on the menu.
On Sundays, lunch is replaced by an over-the-top brunch. The three courses begin with freshly baked bread, cheeses, marmalades, yoghurt, homemade granola, French charcuterie, and eggs benedict. They are followed by chicken, flank steak, and the sausage of the week served with flavourful sides. The meal ends with a buffet of sweets. All this is washed down with brunch cocktails, bubbles, wine, or delicious non-alcoholic options.
Enjoy the sun
Vau De Ville, Norrmalmstorg 6
In the hexagon-shaped building in the middle of Norrmalmstorg, you will find Vau De Ville, a French bistro with one of the city's sunniest outdoor terraces.
Choose between steak minute, oysters, and moules frites or Swedish favourites like meatballs and toast Skagen. The drinks menu includes the ‘Norrmalmstorg drinks’ – Gisslan, Syndromet, and Valvet– named after the famous Norrmalmstorg drama.
The upstairs restaurant is a great option when the weather doesn't allow for a wine lunch outside. You sit in a classic bistro setting and look through large windows facing the square.
Coffee Break at Sempre
Sempre, Jakobsbergsgatan 7
The small espresso bar Sempre on Jakobsbergsgatan serves around 500 espressos per day. And it's no coincidence – coffee is treated with reverence and love at Sempre.
Many regulars gladly take a detour to start the day or end their lunch with a coffee made from quality beans from southern Sicily, Modica, to be exact. To complement, sandwiches, croissants, and Italian sweets are also available over the counter.
Most Wanted – This Season's Trendiest Looks
Sporty Elegance
Elegant and feminine but with a sporty twist. This season, sporty details have found their way into fashion. Why not pair a workout top with a sleek skirt and heels? In Bibliotekstan, we find plenty of sober Scandinavian design stores that go well with sportier garments from brands like Gant (Birger Jarlsgatan 15), J. Lindeberg (Biblioteksgatan 6), and Axel Arigato (Biblioteksgatan 7).
Minimalist 90s Style
Does the minimalist 90s style ever go out of fashion? The answer is, of course, no, even though the timeless cuts have received an extra boost this season. Think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Julia Roberts, and Gwyneth Paltrow in the mid-90s – and let your imagination run wild inside Toteme's store, which can now be found at the temporary address Norrmalmstorg 14 but will open doors to newly renovated premises at Biblioteksgatan 5 during the summer. Swedish fashion houses House of Dagmar (Smålandsgatan 9) and Teurn Studios (Jakobsbergsgatan 9) also have plenty of pieces in the popular 90s fashion style.

Standout Accessories
Swedish jewellery
Trends come and go, but beautiful jewellery endures. The Swedish family company Engelbert (Birger Jarlsgatan 13) has created exclusive jewellery collections since the 1920s. In recent years, "The Legacy Knot Ring" has topped many wish lists—and the design is now also available as a necklace.
Around the corner, at Mäster Samuelsgatan 3, we step into the mysterious world of jewellery designer Maria Nilsdotter. It is filled with claw-shaped rings, silver unicorns, and diamond-studded arrows—often inspired by mythology and nature romanticism.
For more traditional jewellery craftsmanship, head to Kaplans Auktioner (Biblioteksgatan 5), the leading auction house for jewellery, silver, gemstones, and watches in the Nordics. They also offer newly manufactured goods.
Find a new watch
If you prefer to check out watches, don't miss Bo Berggren Urhandel (Biblioteksgatan 4), an authorized dealer for brands like Patek Philippe and Omega. Breitling also chose to open its first Swedish store in the area (Biblioteksgatan 7). And if you crave Cartier's classic jewellery and watches, the exclusive jewellery brand's only Swedish flagship store is at Smålandsgatan 10.
